IBM Tivoli Framework SOA Infrastructure Tools
IBM Tivoli Management Framework (TMF), one of the SOA Service Oriented Architecture Infrastructure Tools, is a systems management platform from IBM (previously Tivoli Systems, Inc., acquired by IBM in 1995 and moved into IBM's Software Group division). The Framework is a CORBA-based architecture that allows the platform to manage large numbers of remote locations or devices.
The framework was a kind of best-practices paradigm. Several products used the TMF but it is going to be replaced by SOA techniques over time.[citation needed]
IBM Products that use TMF
IBM/Tivoli Distributed Monitoring Classic (DM) - Provides agent based monitoring capabilities. Still widely used by customers. Followup: IBM/Tivoli Monitoring (formerly Candle) and IBM/Netcool OMNIBus family.
IBM/Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC) - Provides enterprise class event management handling and correlation. Still widely used by customers. A possible followup: IBM/Tivoli Netcool OMNIBus family.
IBM/Tivoli Configuration Manager - Provides hardware and software Inventory and Software Distribution capabilities. Followup as a non-TMF version or incorporated with other software with similar functionality.
IBM/Tivoli Remote Control - Includes VNC-like capabilities. Likely to be replaced by a non-TMF version.
IBM Tivoli NetView - for network management; utilizes SNMP; can use TMF or not. Possible followup: IBM/Tivoli Netcool Precision
